fraser or genting?
Both are cool hill escapes within about two hours of KL, which is where the similarity ends. Fraser's Hill is a quiet colonial hill station where there's very little to do, while Genting is a resort city with theme parks, a casino and a cable car.

Go fraser if…
- you want quiet and don't need much to do
- you're into birdwatching or short forest walks
- afternoon tea in a Tudor-style inn sounds like the whole plan
- you'd rather avoid crowds and queues
Go genting if…
- the group wants rides, shopping or the casino
- you only have a day and want the shortest drive
- you need things to do indoors when it rains
- you don't have a car
The verdict
These are opposite trips: Fraser's Hill is for doing very little in cool air, and Genting is for doing a lot under one roof. Fraser's has few places to stay, so book ahead; Genting is easy to do on the day but jams up at weekends. Can't decide? If the group is happy with a walk, a book and a long breakfast, go Fraser's; if anyone will be bored by lunchtime, go Genting.
