fraser's hill
Cool air, Tudor-style bungalows and some of the best birdwatching in the country.
- Best time
- Weekdays for quiet. Birdwatchers come all year; long weekends are the busiest.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- About 2 hours' drive from KL via Kuala Kubu Bharu. The final road up is narrow and winding.

A quiet colonial hill station with Tudor-style bungalows, a clock tower and cool forest trails. There isn't much to do, and that's the point.
Makan
- Ye Olde SmokehouseEnglish breakfast and afternoon tea in a Tudor-style inn.
- Hawker foodSimple Malaysian dishes at the food court near the clock tower.
Things to do
- BirdwatchingHundreds of species have been recorded here. Go at dawn.
- Jungle trailsShort, well-marked trails like Bishop's Trail and Hemmant Trail.
- Jeriau WaterfallA short drive and walk from the town centre.
- Allan's WaterA small lake with paddle boats.
- The clock towerThe stone landmark at the centre of everything.
Where to stay
Book ahead for the old bungalows and inns; there aren't many places to stay on the hill.
Good to know
- There's little nightlife and few shops. Bring snacks.
- Mist rolls in fast, so drive slowly on the way up.
