malé
Fish markets, coral-stone heritage and waterfront streets in a compact island capital.
- Best time
- January–March is the most reliably dry stretch, and April is usually still good. May–November brings more rain and rougher seas, so leave slack around boat transfers.
- How long
- 1 day or an overnight stop
- Getting there
- About 4.5 hours direct from KL. The airport is on its own island, and the bridge to Malé takes about 15 minutes by taxi or bus. The Maldives is 3 hours behind KL.

Malé is one of the most crowded capitals in the world, packed onto one small island. A few hours of markets, mosques and harbour life make a good contrast to the resorts.
