Penang is mostly about eating, with George Town's hawker stalls, street art and clan jetties at the centre of it all. Add Penang Hill for cooler air, Kek Lok Si for a hillside temple, Batu Ferringhi for the beach and Balik Pulau for asam laksa and durian orchards. It's about four hours from KL by car or ETS, or a short flight, and two or three days makes a good first trip.
