Places to visit in Indonesia

Indonesia is mostly islands and volcanoes: Bali for rice terraces and sunsets, Lombok and the Gili Islands for something calmer, and Mount Bromo for a sunrise jeep ride to a smoking crater. Medan and Lake Toba make a proper makan trip just across the Strait of Malacca, and Yogyakarta is the base for Borobudur and Prambanan. Stick to one area per trip, since getting between islands takes longer than the map suggests.
