wang kelian
Limestone hills, a broad valley viewpoint and quiet villages near the Thai border.
- Best time
- December to March is the driest and clearest time for the view. Go in the morning, before the haze or cloud builds.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- About 6 hours' drive from KL on the North–South Expressway, then about 45 minutes from Kangar through Kaki Bukit and up the hill road (R15).

A border village in a valley of the Nakawan Range, reached by a steep, winding road over the hills from Kaki Bukit. Most people come for the viewpoint near the top of that road, looking out over the limestone ridges and the paddy fields below.

Good to know
- After the November 2025 landslides the road was open only to light vehicles in daylight, with repairs due to finish in August 2026. Don't count on a pre-dawn drive up until that's lifted.
- The passport-free zone that made Wang Kelian's border market famous has been closed since 2015, and a plan to reopen it was put off after the floods.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
