teluk senangin

A quiet sandy bay looking out to Pangkor, with the Segari turtle centre just up the coast.

Best time
Any time of year. Late afternoon is best, when the sand cools down and the sun drops into the strait. Weekends and school holidays bring families from Ipoh and Manjung; on a weekday you'll have most of the bay to yourself.
How long
Half a day
Getting there
About 3–3.5 hours' drive from KL to Lumut and Seri Manjung, then 30 minutes north on the coast road towards Segari. Ipoh is about 1.5 hours away. You'll need a car.

A small curved bay of soft sand north of Lumut, with Pangkor on the horizon and fewer people than Teluk Batik. Bring a mat, swim when the sea is flat and stay for the sunset over the Strait of Malacca. The turtle centre at Segari is ten minutes up the road.

Things to do

  1. The baySoft sand with Pangkor across the water. Swim when it's calm; one end shelves more steeply than the other.Map ↗
  2. SunsetStay on the sand until the sun goes down over the Strait of Malacca.Map ↗
  3. Segari turtle centreThe Fisheries Department's turtle conservation centre on Pasir Panjang beach, about 10 minutes north, with green and olive ridley turtles in the pools, a hatchery and a small exhibition. Nesting has dropped off in recent years, so a hatchling release is a bonus.Map ↗

Good to know

  • There are basic toilets and showers by the beach and not much else, so bring water, food and a rubbish bag.
  • At the turtle centre, no flash photos and no touching the turtles.
