Osh is one of Central Asia's oldest cities, in the Fergana Valley, with a sacred rocky mountain rising out of the middle of it. Its Kyrgyz and Uzbek communities give the food a different feel from Bishkek, and the plov is famous.

- Cave museumA museum built into a cave in the mountainside, on local archaeology and old beliefs.Map ↗

Good to know
- Climb Sulaiman-Too early, before the stone steps heat up.
- The old riverside bazaar has been cleared for rebuilding, so older maps and guides are out of date.
- Osh is conservative and food is halal as a rule. The road to Bishkek takes 10–12 hours over mountain passes, so most people fly.
