bishkek
Shady parks, Soviet-era squares and mountain valleys close enough for a day out.
- Best time
- May–June and September are pleasant in town and good for the nearby valleys. July–August is hot; winter is cold, and the air can be smoggy.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Bishkek, usually via Almaty or Tashkent, about 11–14 hours all in. Or fly direct to Almaty and cross by road, about 4–5 hours with the border. Manas airport is about 40 minutes from the centre. Kyrgyzstan is 2 hours behind KL, and Malaysians don't need a visa.

Bishkek is a low-rise, leafy capital with snowy mountains at the end of its streets. It's an easy first stop before Issyk-Kul or the mountains, with parks, Soviet monuments and big bowls of noodles.

- Kyrgyz and Uzbek cafés serve halal meat as a rule; Russian-style cafés may serve pork.
- There's no regular bus to Ala Archa, so agree a return pickup with your taxi.
