Himalayan sunrise views and ridge walks above the Kathmandu Valley.
- Best time
- October–December usually brings the clearest air, with cold nights, and February–March is milder. June–September cloud hides the mountains, and spring haze can soften the view.
- How long
- 1–2 nights
- Getting there
- Fly direct from KL to Kathmandu (about 4.5 hours); Nagarkot is about 1.5 hours from the airport by road. Nepal is 2 hours 15 minutes behind KL.

Nagarkot is a village on a ridge at the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley, known for sunrise over the Himalaya, from the Annapurnas to Everest on the clearest days. It's an easy overnight escape from the city, with forest walks and fresh air.

Things to do
- SunriseThe peaks turn pink, then gold, above the dark foothills, seen from most hotel terraces.Map ↗
- Nagarkot View TowerA lookout on the hilltop south of the village, a short drive or an hour's walk, for the full panorama.Map ↗
- Ridge walksEasy paths through pine woods and small farming villages along the ridge.Map ↗
- Walk to ChangunarayanA mostly downhill half-day walk through villages and terraces to the valley's oldest temple, a UNESCO-listed site.Map ↗
Good to know
- Hotels right on the ridge have the best views; some that use the Nagarkot name sit lower down.
- A car can meet you at Changunarayan, so the walk only goes one way, downhill.
- Halal is hard to find in Nagarkot; vegetable dal bhat and thukpa are on every menu.
