mokpo
A cable car over the harbour, steep old streets and generous seafood meals.
- Best time
- April–May and October–November are pleasant around the harbour. July–August is hot and wet; winter is quieter, but the viewpoints catch cold sea winds.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Seoul Incheon (about 6.5 hours). The KTX from Yongsan reaches Mokpo in about 2.5 hours. Korea is an hour ahead of KL.

A port city at Korea's southwest corner, with steep old streets, island views and serious seafood. The old centre is small enough to walk, and a long cable car does the climbing for you.

Good to know
- Stay near Mokpo Station for the old town. The newer Hadang area has the seafront fountain shows but is a taxi ride away.
- Seafood and vegetable dishes are the easiest pork-free choices; 'gogi ppae-juseyo' asks for no meat.
