mahé
Granite-backed beaches, forest viewpoints and Creole food on Seychelles' main island.
- Best time
- April–May and October–November usually have calm seas between the trade-wind seasons. December–January is wetter; June–September is drier but windier, with rougher water on the exposed coasts.
- How long
- 4–5 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Mahé, usually via Dubai, Doha or Colombo, about 12–16 hours all in. Victoria is about 20 minutes from the airport, and Beau Vallon about 30–40. Seychelles is 4 hours behind KL, and every visitor needs an online travel authorisation before flying.

Mahé is the Seychelles' main island, with granite peaks covered in forest and dozens of beaches around the coast. A base near Beau Vallon makes food and evening walks easy, and the rest of the island is a short drive away.

Good to know
- Pick beaches on the sheltered side for the season; Beau Vallon is calmest during the south-east trade winds, from about May to October.
- Halal options are limited, so fish and vegetable dishes are the easy choice.
- Mahé's mountain roads are narrow and twisty, so allow more time than the distances suggest.
