praslin

Coco de mer forest, granite-framed beaches and boat trips to nearby islands.

Best time
April–May and October–November are best for calm-water boat trips. June–September brings stronger south-east winds and rougher crossings; December–January is wetter.
How long
3–4 days
Getting there
Fly with one stop to Mahé, usually via Dubai, Doha or Colombo, about 12–16 hours all in. Praslin is then a 15-minute flight or about an hour by fast ferry from the jetty in Victoria, which is separate from the airport. Seychelles is 4 hours behind KL.

Praslin pairs long beach days with the Vallée de Mai, a forest of palms found nowhere else on earth. It's also the base for Curieuse and La Digue, though the island deserves a few unhurried days of its own.

Good to know

  • Keep a night on Mahé before the flight home; rough seas can disrupt the ferries.
  • Halal-certified meat is scarce, so fish and vegetable dishes are the easy choice.
  • A guide in the Vallée de Mai helps you spot the black parrots and tell the palms apart.
