lata kijang

An 80-metre forest waterfall and a wade up the Berungut gorge in Jelebu's Kenaboi park.

Best time
Drier spells, usually February and June to August. Stay out of the river after rain or with rain forecast, as the water rises fast. NS Forestry has closed its forest trails at the start of past year-end monsoons (from 1 December 2022 and 28 November 2025), so December is a gamble.

≈ 34 km from KL, as the crow flies

Lata Kijang is the big waterfall of Taman Negeri Kenaboi, the state park in the hills of northern Jelebu: one long, thin drop of about 80 metres down a rock face into a small pool. The walk in is easy going, and Jeram Berungut, a narrow gorge you wade up, is close to the park office, so the two make a full day.

Makan

  1. Nasi lemak bungkusBuy a few packets in Kuala Klawang on the way in. There are no stalls at the falls.Map ↗

Things to do

  1. The walk inAbout 4 km each way from the park office, mostly along a wide old road and then down steps to the pool. Allow about 1.5 hours each way.Map ↗
  2. Lata KijangThe falls come down in a single ribbon; the rocks by the pool are the place to look up from.Map ↗
  3. Jeram BerungutA narrow river gorge between rock walls, 30–45 minutes from the park office. About half the way is in the river, waist-deep in places.Map ↗
  4. Motorbike liftsOrang Asli riders offer lifts along the road towards Lata Kijang if you'd rather save your legs.Map ↗

Good to know

  • Buy the Kenaboi permit on N9Pay or at the park office. One permit covers the park's walks for the day.
  • Rent a life jacket at the park office for Jeram Berungut, and skip the gorge if it has rained: there are few places to climb out.
  • Start early. The road section is open to the sun, and storms often roll in by mid-afternoon.
