klebang
Coconut shakes with ice cream, a submarine you can walk through and sunset over the strait.
- Best time
- Any time of year. Late afternoon is best: the heat has eased, the sun sets over the water, and on weekdays the shake queue moves quickly.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- About 2 hours' drive from KL via the Ayer Keroh exit of the North–South Expressway. From the old town it's 15–20 minutes north-west along the coast road.

Klebang is the stretch of coast just north-west of Melaka's old town, much of it on reclaimed land. Most people come for the coconut shake first, then stay for the submarine museum and the sunset over the Strait of Malacca.
Makan
- Coconut shakeCoconut water and flesh blended with ice and topped with vanilla ice cream. Klebang Original Coconut Shake is the one with the queue.Map ↗
- Keropok lekor and kuihThe shake stalls also fry keropok lekor and sell kuih and popiah to go with your drink.Map ↗
- Ikan bakarThe stalls along Pantai Puteri's beach road do grilled fish once the sun has set.Map ↗
Things to do
- Submarine MuseumWalk from bow to stern through the Ouessant, the French-built submarine that trained Malaysia's first submarine crews. There's an old fighter jet outside too.Map ↗
- Klebang beachSit on the shore for the sunset, with ships lined up along the strait.Map ↗
- Pantai PuteriTen minutes further up the coast road at Tanjung Kling, a longer local beach with picnic spots under the trees and food stalls along the road.Map ↗
Good to know
- Weekends and school holidays bring long queues for the shake. Weekday afternoons are much quicker.
- The submarine has narrow hatches and steep steps, so it's hard going with a pram or if you don't like tight spaces.
- It's a sunset beach rather than a swimming one: the water is murky, and parts of the shore are lined with rocks against erosion.
