Karlovy Vary is a 19th-century spa town strung along a narrow wooded valley, with colonnades sheltering hot mineral springs. You stroll the promenade sipping from a porcelain spa cup, then stop for a warm wafer.

Good to know
- Buy a spouted spa cup and taste the springs along the colonnades; the water is warm and very mineral, so go easy.
- The colonnades are for drinking only; for a soak, book a spa treatment or use a public thermal pool.
- Halal meat is hard to find; bring food from Prague, or stick to wafers, pastries and cheese dishes.
