bukit senaling
Kuala Pilah's cloud-carpet hill: an hour's climb to a summit above the morning mist.
- Best time
- Drier spells, usually February and June to August. Start in the dark: the cloud is thickest at sunrise and has usually gone by about 10am. It doesn't form every day, but humid nights and overnight rain help. NS Forestry has shut its forest trails at the start of past year-end monsoons, so December is a gamble.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- About 1.5–2 hours' drive from KL: the North–South Expressway to Seremban, then Federal Route 51 over Bukit Putus to Kuala Pilah. The trailhead is about 12 minutes south of town.

Bukit Senaling, 394 metres, is 12 minutes south of Kuala Pilah and has become one of Negeri Sembilan's favourite sunrise hikes. The draw is the awan karpet: on still mornings the valleys fill with cloud and the summit pokes out above it.

Good to know
- Registration and the forestry permit are handled at a counter by the car park, run by local hikers. Groups should message one of the Bukit Senaling guides a few days ahead.
- Bring a headlamp and a light layer; you'll be waiting at the top in the dark.
