- Any time of year, starting early on a dry morning. The slopes get slippery in the rain, and October and November are usually the wettest months.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- About 2–2.5 hours' drive from KL: the North–South Expressway to the Jasin exit, then north on country roads to Nyalas, near the Negeri Sembilan border.

Bukit Gapis, at Nyalas in Melaka's north-east corner, is the state's highest point. At 480 metres it clears the bar for a mountain, so in 2020 the state named it Gunung Melaka. The climb starts in a rubber estate and goes up through forest to a summit stone dated 1901, on the border with Negeri Sembilan.

Good to know
- You need a Melaka Forestry permit and a registered mountain guide (malim gunung), who can take up to seven hikers. Sort both out before you go.
- Parking is a small patch of village land at the trailhead, and there are no toilets.
