bukit maras
A short, sunny climb to Kuala Nerus's highest point, with sea views and paragliders.
- Best time
- March to September. Start at first light: the main route has no shade and it's hot by 9am. The November–January monsoon makes the track muddy and slippery.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Kuala Terengganu (about an hour). The trailhead, by the farms near Kampung Maras in Batu Rakit, is about 20 minutes from the airport or 35 minutes from the city. Driving from KL takes about 5 hours on the East Coast Expressway.

Good to know
- Sedans struggle on the rough access road, especially after rain. Park at the bottom and walk.
- The car park fills early on Friday and Saturday, Terengganu's weekend. Come at dawn or on a weekday.
- There's no water on the trail, so carry all you need.
