bayeux
A cathedral town of old stone houses, close to Normandy's D-Day beaches.
- Best time
- May to September has the long days you want for the beaches and battlefields. Early June brings D-Day anniversary events and crowds; November to February is wet, cold and dark early.
- How long
- 2 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct to Paris on Malaysia Airlines (about 13.5 hours), then a train from Saint-Lazare to Bayeux (about 2.5 hours, direct or via Caen). The centre is a 15-minute walk from the station. France is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Bayeux is a small cathedral town of old stone houses with a little river running through it, and the easiest base for the D-Day beaches. Its famous tapestry is on loan to the British Museum in London until July 2027 while the museum here is rebuilt.

Good to know
- The tapestry is in London until July 2027, and the new museum in Bayeux is planned to open in autumn 2027.
- Pack a lunch for the D-Day coast; halal food is very hard to find in the countryside around Bayeux.
