Places to visit in Kazakhstan

Most Kazakhstan trips are Almaty trips: leafy streets under snowy peaks, a busy food bazaar and cable cars up into the mountains. With more time, Astana has space-age buildings along the Ishim River, Turkistan a turquoise-domed Silk Road mausoleum, and Aktau the chalk cliffs and desert rock formations of Mangystau. Almaty is about eight hours direct from KL on AirAsia X, and the others are a domestic flight on.
