okinawa or jeju?
Both are their country's holiday island, with beaches, coastal drives and food of their own, and both usually mean a connection from KL. Okinawa is warmer, with clearer water and some of Japan's best snorkelling, while Jeju is a volcanic island for hikes, waterfalls and seaside cafés.

Go okinawa if…
- clear water and snorkelling are the point of the trip
- the kids would love the whale sharks at Churaumi
- you'd rather drive on the left, like at home
- Ryukyu history and food interest you
Go jeju if…
- you'd rather hike and sightsee than swim
- volcanic craters, waterfalls and seaside cafés sound good
- you want to add a few days in Seoul to the trip
- you're going in spring for the flowers, or late autumn for tangerines
The verdict
Okinawa is the beach trip, with warmer, clearer water and better snorkelling; Jeju is more about scenery and fits neatly onto a Seoul trip. Can't decide? If the group wants to be in the sea, Okinawa; if they'd rather hike, drive and eat, Jeju. Either way, rent a car and avoid typhoon season.
