da lat or sapa?

Both are Vietnam's cool-air escapes, the kind of trip where you swap the heat for a jacket. Da Lat, in the south, is a cosy town of cafés, lakes and flower farms that's easy to enjoy without much effort, while Sapa, in the far north, is about rice terraces, village treks and homestays.

The verdict

Da Lat is the easier, gentler trip, a bit like a Cameron Highlands weekend with more coffee. Sapa takes more effort to reach but has the bigger scenery, especially for a group that likes walking. Can't decide? Pair it with the city you'd visit anyway: Da Lat with Saigon, Sapa with Hanoi. Just avoid Da Lat over Lunar New Year, when it's packed.
