rome
Roman ruins, piazzas and pasta in a city you can explore street by street.
- Best time
- April–June and September–October are warm and good for walking. July–August is very hot on the exposed ruins, and many Romans leave town in August; November–February is cooler and wetter, but quieter.
- How long
- 4 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul, about 16–18 hours all in. The Leonardo Express train from Fiumicino reaches Termini in about 30 minutes. Italy is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Rome stacks ancient ruins, churches and everyday street life on top of each other. Give the Colosseum and the Vatican their own time, then slow down in the piazzas.
