venice
Canal boats, quiet back lanes and lagoon islands beyond St Mark's Square.
- Best time
- April–June and September–October are mild and good for walking. July–August is hot and crowded; from October to January, high tides can flood St Mark's Square, though the sea barriers now hold back the worst.
- How long
- 3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Venice Marco Polo, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul, about 17–19 hours all in. A bus or water bus takes you from the airport into the city. Italy is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Venice is a city of canals and footbridges with no cars at all. Stay overnight: once the day-trippers go, the back lanes and canals are yours.

Good to know
- Halal food is scarce in the historic centre; Mestre, on the mainland, has more.
- On busy spring and summer days, day-trippers pay an access fee. Staying overnight exempts you, though you still register online for a free pass.
