penang bird park
Walk-in aviaries, hornbills, flamingos and a new reptile house, just off the Penang Bridge.
- Best time
- Any time of year. Go at opening time, when the birds are livelier and before the mainland heat builds; afternoon storms are common in the wetter months.
- How long
- 2–3 hours
- Getting there
- About 3.5–4 hours' drive from KL on the North–South Expressway. The park is on Jalan Todak in Seberang Jaya, about 10 minutes from the mainland end of the Penang Bridge and about 25 minutes from George Town.

Malaysia's first bird park opened in Seberang Jaya in 1988 and is still going, with more than 300 species from hornbills to flamingos. Walk-in aviaries and a reptile house that opened in December 2025 make it an easy morning on the mainland, without the island traffic.

Good to know
- Much of the walk is outdoors between ponds and aviaries, so bring insect repellent, a hat and water.
- Make a mainland day of it: Bukit Mertajam's old town is 15 minutes away and the Butterworth ferry about 20.
