Kites over Metropolitan Park and a shared Chinese dinner in Kepong Baru.
- Best time
- Any time of year. A dry, breezy late afternoon is best for kites, and mornings for a cooler walk round the lake. Weekends are busiest.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- Take the MRT Putrajaya line to Kepong Baru for the food streets, then a short Grab to the park. Driving from the city centre takes about 30 minutes via Jalan Kuching and the MRR2, longer at rush hour.

Kepong Metropolitan Park is where KL goes to fly kites, so much that locals call it Taman Layang-Layang: a big lake ringed by open grass. Spend the late afternoon there, then head to Kepong Baru for a Chinese dinner.

Things to do
Good to know
- Bak kut teh and KL Hokkien mee contain pork and aren't halal.
- Park parking fills up on weekend evenings, so come early.
- Use the park's road entrances; don't try to cross the MRR2 on foot.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
