gunung nuang
A long, tough day hike from Pangsun, past Kem Lolo and Kem Pacat to a cool summit.
- Best time
- February to October, on a dry day with a very early start. Selangor Forestry usually closes its mountain trails over the year-end monsoon, roughly December and January, and Nuang has stayed shut longer for repairs after it.
- How long
- 1 long day
- Getting there
- About an hour's drive from KL via Ampang or Cheras to Hulu Langat, then on to the trailhead at Pangsun. There's no public transport.

At 1,493 m, Gunung Nuang is Selangor's third-highest mountain, on the border with Pahang. The route from Pangsun is a classic Klang Valley test: a long jeep track, river crossings, then a steep, rooty climb to the top. Fit hikers do it in one long day.

Things to do
- The jeep track to Kem LoloAbout 5 km of stony track, with river crossings near the end, to the first camp by the river.Map ↗
- Kem PacatA steep, root-covered climb of almost 600 m. Pacat means leech, and it's named for a reason.Map ↗
- The summitThe last push to 1,493 m, with cool air and views over the Titiwangsa range when the cloud lifts.Map ↗
Good to know
- You need a Selangor Forestry permit, applied for online through SEFOREST, and a licensed mountain guide (malim gunung). Sort both out a couple of weeks ahead.
- Start at first light. Most groups take 8–12 hours there and back, and you want to be off the mountain before dark.
- Put leech socks on before Kem Pacat, and turn back if the river crossings start rising.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
