Alberobello is the town of trulli: little whitewashed houses with grey stone cones for roofs, about 1,500 of them packed onto two hillsides. It's busy with tour groups by day, but stay the night and the lanes go quiet.

Things to do
- Rione MontiThe main trulli district, about a thousand cones on a hillside, many of them now shops.Map ↗
- Aia PiccolaA smaller trulli district across the main road, still mostly homes and much quieter.Map ↗
- Trullo SovranoThe only two-storey trullo, furnished inside so you can see how they were lived in.Map ↗
- The Itria ValleyLocorotondo and Cisternino, white hill towns above trulli and olive groves, are a short drive away.Map ↗
Good to know
- Aia Piccola is a living neighbourhood, so keep voices down and don't wander into open doorways.
- Halal meat is hard to find, but Puglia's cooking leans on vegetables, pulses and pasta, so meat-free meals are easy.
