Best time
April–May and October–November are best for walking. Spring snowmelt can keep the Narrows closed into June, July–August are very hot with afternoon flash-flood storms, and winter can leave high trails icy.

Getting there
Fly to Las Vegas with one stop via Seoul, about 20–23 hours all in, then drive about 2.5–3 hours to Springdale at the park gate. Utah is 14 hours behind KL, 15 from November to early March, an hour ahead of Las Vegas. Malaysians need a US B1/B2 visitor visa, usually with an interview at the embassy in KL; ESTA isn't open to Malaysian passports.

Zion's red and cream cliffs rise straight out of a green river valley. A lot of it is reached on easy riverside walks from the shuttle, with harder trails for anyone after height, or a day wading up the Narrows.

  1. Riverside WalkA paved path along the Virgin River to the start of the Narrows, where the canyon walls close in.Map ↗
  2. The NarrowsWade upstream between sheer walls. Hire water shoes and a stick in Springdale, and only go when the river is low and no storms are forecast.Map ↗

Good to know

  • From March to November the main canyon road is shuttle-only, so park in Springdale and ride in.
  • Non-US residents pay an extra per-person fee at Zion and ten other busy national parks, so on a multi-park trip the non-resident annual pass can work out cheaper. Angels Landing's chains need a separate permit from an online lottery.
  • There's no halal in Springdale; bring supplies from Las Vegas, which has plenty.
