Cycle past karst hills and rice fields, go bamboo rafting, then hit West Street.
- Best time
- September to November is the sweet spot. Summer is green but hot and very rainy, and in winter the Li River can run low, which sometimes shortens the cruises.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Guilin, about 4 hours. From Guilin it's about 1.5 hours by road, or take a Li River cruise down to Yangshuo, about 4 hours. High-speed trains also stop at Yangshuo station, a bus ride from town.

A small town on the Li River surrounded by jagged karst peaks, the classic Guilin scenery from Chinese paintings. Most of the fun is outside town: cycling country lanes, rafting the Yulong River and climbing hills for the view.

Good to know
- West Street is busy and loud at night. Go for a look, then head out to the countryside lanes for quiet.
- Weather changes fast in summer. Carry rain gear and sunscreen when cycling.
- Most places expect Alipay or WeChat Pay. Link your card to one before you fly and keep some cash as a backup.
