February to March for cherry blossoms, March to May for calla lilies, and October to November for silver grass. Winter is often foggy and damp, which makes it hot spring season.

Getting there
Fly from KL to Taipei (about 5 hours). Buses from Taipei Main Station and Jiantan MRT station climb into the park in about 40 minutes to an hour. Beitou's hot springs are on the MRT.

A national park of volcanic hills right on Taipei's northern edge. Within an hour of the city you can hike Taiwan's tallest dormant volcano, watch sulphur steam out of the ground and finish with a hot spring soak.

Good to know

  • Stay on the trails. The park has venomous snakes, wasps and sulphur gas near the vents.
  • Weather changes fast up here. Carry a rain jacket even if Taipei is sunny.
  • Weekend traffic in flower season is heavy, so take the bus.
