wuyi mountains
Red cliffs, bamboo rafts on the Nine-Bend River and oolong tea grown between rocks.
- Best time
- April–May for the spring tea harvest, and September–November for clear trails. June–August brings heavy rain and heat, and high water can stop the rafts.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct from KL to Fuzhou (about 4.5 hours). High-speed trains from Fuzhou reach Wuyishan East or Wuyishan North in about an hour, then it's about 40 minutes by bus or taxi to the scenic area. Malaysians can visit mainland China visa-free for up to 30 days.

A UNESCO-listed range of red sandstone cliffs in northern Fujian, where a clear river winds through the peaks and tea bushes grow in the cracks between rocks. This is where Da Hong Pao and the other 'rock teas' come from.

Things to do

Good to know
- Stay near the resort area rather than in Wuyishan city, which is about 15 km from the trails.
- Book the raft time first, then plan the walks around it.
- Halal food is scarce here; the Lanzhou-style noodle shops (清真, qingzhen) in town are the main option.
