Black-sand shores, sea stacks and grassy cliffs along Iceland's south coast.
- Best time
- May–September has long days for the coast stops. Winter brings storms, ice and short days, especially in December–January; even summer is windy and wet, so pack waterproofs.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Keflavík, usually via London, Amsterdam or Istanbul (about 19–21 hours all in). Vík is about 2.5 hours' drive from Reykjavík along the Ring Road. Iceland is 8 hours behind KL all year.

Vík is a tiny village on Iceland's south coast, under green cliffs and next to black-sand beaches and sea stacks. Staying the night lets you see the coast at quieter hours than the day tours from Reykjavík.

Things to do

- DyrhólaeyA headland with a huge rock arch and a lighthouse; puffins nest on the cliffs in early summer.Map ↗

- SkógafossA broad waterfall about 30 minutes west; climb the stairs beside it for the view from the top.Map ↗
Good to know
- At Reynisfjara, stay well back from the water and never turn your back on the sea; sneaker waves race far up the beach and have killed visitors.
- There's no halal meat in Vík, so bring supplies from Reykjavík; the village supermarket has fish, skyr and bread.
