ulu legong hot springs
Hot spring pools in the Baling hills, where locals soak late into the night.
- Best time
- Any time of year. Evenings and nights are the pleasant, busy time; a midday soak in the heat is hard work. Weekends, which in Kedah are Friday and Saturday, are the most crowded.
- How long
- Half a day, or a night in the chalets
- Getting there
- About 5 hours' drive from KL: the North–South Expressway to Kuala Kangsar, then Route 76 north through Gerik and Pengkalan Hulu to Baling, and about 25 minutes on to Ulu Legong. From Penang, allow about 2 hours.

Ulu Legong is a hot spring park in the hills about 25 minutes north of Baling town. The source pool, roped off at around 70°C, feeds a run of tiled pools that get cooler as the water moves on, with separate pools for women and for children. Locals come after dinner and soak well into the night.

Things to do

- A night soakCome after dark, when the air cools and the pools fill with families and groups of friends.Map ↗
- The chaletsChalets and a dormitory on site mean you can soak at night and again at dawn.Map ↗

Good to know
- Bring modest swimwear, a towel and a full change of clothes.
- Keep small children in the children's pool. The source pool is roped off because it's hot enough to scald.
- The road in from Baling is dark and rural at night, so if you're soaking late, book a chalet rather than driving back.
