Colourful river warehouses, wooden neighbourhoods and a great Gothic cathedral.
- Best time
- May–September has long days for walking and cycling. Winter is cold and dark, with icy pavements, but the cafés are cosy.
- How long
- 2 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Oslo, usually via Amsterdam, Doha or Istanbul (about 16–18 hours all in), then about an hour on to Trondheim. The airport train reaches the city in about 35 minutes. Norway is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Trondheim was Norway's first capital, with a huge Gothic cathedral built over the grave of St Olav. Coloured wooden warehouses line the river, and the old lanes of Bakklandet are made for coffee and slow walks.
