A lakeside skyline, island ferries and neighbourhoods full of food from around the world.

Best time
May–October are good for walking and the islands, with warm, busy summers and autumn colour in October. January–February are freezing and icy.
How long
3–4 days
Getting there
Fly with one stop, usually via Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul or Tokyo, about 20–24 hours all in. The UP Express train takes 25 minutes from Pearson airport to Union Station. Toronto is 12 hours behind KL, 13 from November to early March. Malaysians need a Canadian visitor visa, or just an eTA if flying in with a valid US visa or a Canadian visa held in the last 10 years.

Toronto is Canada's biggest city, and nearly half its people were born abroad, which shows in the food. The skyline and Lake Ontario are the obvious sights; markets, streetcars and neighbourhoods like Kensington keep it interesting.

Good to know

  • Halal is easy: Scarborough, Thorncliffe Park and Mississauga are full of Pakistani, Afghan and Middle Eastern restaurants, and halal shawarma is everywhere.
  • Summer weekend queues for the island ferry are long, so go early or on a weekday.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
