Synagogues, a former mosque and El Greco paintings inside a bend of the Tagus.
- Best time
- April–June and September–October are pleasant for the steep lanes. July–August are very hot; winter mornings are cold but often clear.
- How long
- 1 day, or 1 night for a quieter visit
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Madrid, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul (about 17–19 hours all in). Fast trains from Madrid Atocha reach Toledo in about 35 minutes, then a bus or the outdoor escalators take you up to the old town. Spain is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Toledo is a walled hilltop city wrapped in a bend of the Tagus, where churches, synagogues and a former mosque stand a few lanes apart. It's an easy day from Madrid, but much quieter if you stay the night.

Good to know
- Book the return train too; afternoon trains back to Madrid fill up at weekends.
- Halal meat is hard to find in Toledo; Madrid's Lavapiés is the easier place for a halal dinner.
