Teide's volcanic slopes, laurel forest and black-sand beaches in the Atlantic.
- Best time
- March–June and September–November are good for walking and the coast. Summer is warm and busy; winter is mild by the sea, but Teide can be freezing, with snow closing the road at times.
- How long
- 4–6 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Madrid, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul (about 17–19 hours all in), then about 3 hours on to Tenerife. The Canaries are 7 hours behind KL in summer and 8 in winter.

Tenerife climbs from black-sand beaches to the bare volcanic plateau of Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak. The south is sunny resort country, while the north has misty laurel forest and old colonial towns.

Things to do
- Teide National ParkA moonscape of lava flows and rock towers around Spain's highest mountain; the cable car rises to near the top.Map ↗
- AnagaMisty laurel forest on steep ridges in the northeast, with trails down to small villages.Map ↗
- La LagunaAn old town of colourful mansions and courtyards, laid out in the 1500s and copied by colonial cities in the Americas.Map ↗
- MascaA tiny village in a deep ravine, reached by a twisting mountain road.Map ↗
Good to know
- The cable car gets you close to the top of Teide, but the last stretch to the summit needs a permit booked online, and they go weeks ahead.
- Fly into the airport on your side of the island: Tenerife South for the resorts, Tenerife North for La Laguna and Anaga.
- Halal meat is limited; the southern resorts have the most choice, and fish with papas arrugadas works anywhere.
