Balconied lanes, sulphur baths and dumplings beside the Mtkvari River.
- Best time
- May–June and September–October are comfortable for the steep streets. July–August can be very hot; winter is quieter, with cold evenings and the odd snowfall.
- How long
- 3–4 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop, usually via Istanbul, Dubai or Doha, about 13–16 hours all in. The airport is about 30 minutes from the centre. Georgia is 4 hours behind KL, and Malaysians can stay up to a year without a visa.

Tbilisi is a hilly city of carved wooden balconies, brick bathhouse domes and courtyards behind ordinary doors. The old town is made for slow walks, broken up with cheese bread and coffee.

Good to know
- For halal, head to the Turkish and Pakistani restaurants along Aghmashenebeli Avenue. Tbilisi's mosque is in Abanotubani.
- The baths rent private rooms by the hour, so a family or group can bathe together.
- The cobbled lanes are steep and polished smooth, so wear shoes with grip.
