An easy overnight from Ho Chi Minh City for two big sights: the Cao Dai Holy See, the colourful mother temple of a religion born in Vietnam, and Ba Den Mountain, the highest peak in the south, with cable cars to the top. Stop on the way for Trang Bang's famous rice paper.

  • Ba Den has more than one cable-car line; buy for the summit if that's where you want to go.
