Island-hop Sapi, Manukan and Mamutik, a short boat ride from KK.
- Best time
- March to September is usually calmer and clearer. Weekends and holidays get crowded, so go early on a weekday.
- How long
- 1 day
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Kota Kinabalu, about 2.5 hours. Boats leave from the Jesselton Point ferry terminal in the city centre.

Five islands just off Kota Kinabalu make up this marine park, named after Malaysia's first prime minister. Speedboats from the city reach the nearest in about 15 minutes, so it's an easy day of snorkelling, swimming and lazing on the beach.

- Don't touch or stand on coral, and use reef-safe sunscreen.
- Check the time of the last boat back before you set off.
