A Murugan temple on the Maran–Jerantut road with a story that goes back to the 1890s. The legend says a big tree bled when workers building the road to Kuantan cut into it, so the road was moved and a shrine put up instead. On an ordinary day it's a quiet stop; at Panguni Uthiram around 300,000 devotees come, many carrying kavadi or pots of milk.

Good to know

  • Dress modestly, leave your shoes at the entrance and ask before photographing people at prayer.
  • At Panguni Uthiram, arrive early or stay the night in Maran or Temerloh; traffic and parking on the Jerantut road get heavy.
