Sighnaghi is a small hilltop town of red roofs and carved balconies above the Alazani Valley, with the Caucasus on the horizon. It's a place for a night, a long lunch and a walk along the old walls.

Good to know
- Stay the night; the lanes empty once the Tbilisi day tours leave.
- Kakheti is wine country and tours revolve around tastings, so ask for a food and village route if you don't drink.
- Halal meat is scarce; bean, cheese and vegetable dishes are easy, but check the beans aren't cooked with pork.
