Sharjah is the UAE's culture capital, right next door to Dubai, with a restored old town, good museums and traditional souks. It's quieter and more conservative than its neighbour, and easy to fill a couple of days.

Good to know

  • Sharjah is dry: food is halal as standard and no alcohol is sold anywhere in the emirate. Dress more modestly than in Dubai, covering shoulders and knees.
  • The Dubai–Sharjah road jams badly at rush hour, so stay in Sharjah or travel against the traffic.
  • Fighting involving Iran closed Gulf airspace several times in 2026, cancelling flights at short notice, so a flexible ticket and insurance that covers disruption are worth having.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
