Good to know

  • Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you go, and know that Google, WhatsApp and Instagram are blocked on local networks.
  • Pork is common in Shanghainese food. Muslim travellers will find Lanzhou-style halal noodle shops all over the city.
  • The metro covers almost everywhere you'll want to go and is easier than taxis at rush hour.
