singapore zoo

Open-concept zoo, with the Night Safari and Bird Paradise right next door.

Best time
Hot and humid all year. Go when it opens, while it's cooler and the animals are more active. Weekdays outside school holidays are quieter, and afternoon showers are common.
How long
Half a day to a full day, plus an evening for the Night Safari
Getting there
Mandai is in the north, about 20–30 minutes' drive from Woodlands Checkpoint, so it's an easy outing from JB. Without a car, take the MRT to Khatib and the shuttle bus to Mandai. From KL, fly about an hour to Changi, then about 40 minutes by taxi.

An open-concept zoo on the edge of Upper Seletar Reservoir, in Singapore's forested north. Animals live in natural-looking enclosures separated by moats and glass instead of cages, and the zoo has the world's largest captive colony of orangutans. It's part of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, with the Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise next door.

Good to know

  • A combined ticket for two or more Mandai parks usually works out cheaper than buying them separately.
  • Bring a cap, water and a light raincoat. Most of the zoo is outdoors.
  • Driving from Malaysia, your car needs a VEP and an Autopass card, sorted before you cross.
