Tiled palace courtyards, orange-tree lanes and flamenco across the river in Triana.
- Best time
- March–May and October–November are warm and easy, and orange blossom scents the streets in spring. Holy Week and the April Fair bring huge crowds, and July–August often pass 40°C.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop, usually via Istanbul, about 18–20 hours all in, or fly to Madrid and take the fast train (about 2.5 hours). Spain is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Seville is orange trees, tiled courtyards and horse carriages around one of the world's biggest cathedrals. Across the river, Triana is where the city's potters and flamenco singers come from.

Things to do
- Real AlcázarA royal palace in Moorish style, with carved plaster, tiled halls and gardens full of fountains and palms.Map ↗
- Cathedral and GiraldaA vast Gothic cathedral. The Giralda bell tower was once the mosque's minaret, and ramps rather than stairs lead to the top.Map ↗
- Plaza de EspañaA huge curved square with a canal, little bridges and a tiled alcove for each Spanish province.Map ↗
- TrianaAcross the river: ceramics workshops, a busy food market and small flamenco bars.Map ↗
Good to know
- Book the Alcázar online; its timed slots sell out, especially in spring.
- Flamenco is best in a small tablao or peña, where everyone sits close to the dancers.
- Seville has a few halal kebab and Moroccan places, but most tapas bars cook with pork, so fried fish and spinach with chickpeas are the easy choice.
