sai kung

Harbourfront seafood, then a boat out to island beaches and the geopark's rock columns.

Best time
October to April is best for hiking and clear days. Summer is beach season but very hot, and typhoon signals stop the boats.
How long

Getting there
Fly from KL to Hong Kong (about 4 hours). From the city, take the MTR to Choi Hung or Diamond Hill, then a minibus or bus to Sai Kung town. Allow about an hour from Central.

A seaside town in the New Territories, often called Hong Kong's back garden. It's the jumping-off point for boat trips to small islands and beaches, the volcanic rock columns of the UNESCO Global Geopark and some of the city's best hiking.

Good to know

  • Agree a pick-up time with the boat before you get off at a beach.
  • Seafood is priced by weight. Ask for the price before they cook it.
  • There's no road to Tai Long Wan. Start early, bring plenty of water and plan how you're getting back.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
