A royal coronation cathedral, Art Deco streets and pink biscuits in Champagne.
- Best time
- May, June, September and October are pleasant for walking, and September is harvest time in the vineyards. July and August can be warm; winter is cold and grey, though the main sights work year-round.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct to Paris on Malaysia Airlines (about 13.5 hours), then a TGV from Gare de l'Est to Reims (about 45 minutes). Book to Reims station itself, not Champagne-Ardenne TGV outside town. France is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

French kings were crowned in Reims for centuries. Champagne cellars run under the city, but the cathedral, Art Deco streets and a Roman arch make it worth a stop even if you don't drink.

Things to do
- Notre-Dame de ReimsThe coronation cathedral, covered in carved figures, including the famous smiling angel.Map ↗
- Champagne cellarsThe big houses age their wine in old chalk quarries deep under the city; the tunnels are the real show.Map ↗
- Saint-Remi BasilicaA quieter, older church south of the centre, bigger inside than you'd expect.Map ↗
- Place Drouet-d'ErlonA long café-lined square, part of the Art Deco centre rebuilt after the First World War.Map ↗
- Porte de MarsA Roman triumphal arch beside a park at the edge of the centre.Map ↗
Good to know
- Cellar tours end with a tasting; you can simply skip the glass, and the chalk tunnels are still worth it.
- For halal food, Turkish and North African takeaways are the easy option.
